Switchfoot Vice Verses free essay sample
ââ¬Å"Vice Versesâ⬠is all about polar opposites. From the album opener, ââ¬Å"Afterlife,â⬠to the poetic ââ¬Å"Restless,â⬠from the old school rock feel of ââ¬Å"Original,â⬠to the slightly reggae ââ¬Å"Blinding Light,â⬠this album is a mix of styles and lyrical messages. Whether youre a fan of Switchfoot or are just discovering their music, this album is perfect. When I first listened to it, I was amazed. ââ¬Å"Vice Versesâ⬠renewed my love for this band. The varying genres, the deep messages ââ¬â everything is wonderful. The strong messages of standing up for yourself, speaking for yourself, and staying true to yourself penetrate the lyrics. The guitar riffs on ââ¬Å"Dark Horseâ⬠are nothing less than perfection. It feels as though ââ¬Å"Vice Versesâ⬠should be the score of a film set in the Middle Ages. Switchfoots experiments with unique sounds show through on ââ¬Å"Rise Above It,â⬠and Jon Foremans vocals on ââ¬Å"Selling the Newsâ⬠ââ¬â spoken instead of sung ââ¬â give a different feel to the album, similar to that of Skillets ââ¬Å"Looking for Angels. We will write a custom essay sample on Switchfoot: Vice Verses or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â⬠My favorite song from the start was ââ¬Å"The War Inside.â⬠It is darker and stronger than the other songs. The opener, ââ¬Å"Afterlife,â⬠is similarly dark, reminiscent of Foo Fighters, starting the album on a rich note. Its message about coming alive introduces the theme of the album. ââ¬Å"Every day the world is made; a chance to change â⬠¦ I wonder why would I wait til I die to come alive?â⬠This theme of not waiting to live continues in ââ¬Å"Originalâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Thrive.â⬠ââ¬Å"Restlessâ⬠has a strong sense of searching for God, ââ¬Å"restlessâ⬠until He is found. The album is flooded with songs to put on repeat. Whether you are rediscovering your love for Switchfoot, as I am, or just finding them for the first time, ââ¬Å"Vice Versesâ⬠is one album to add to your collection.
