Leadership is an action of guiding a group of people or an organization towards achievement of a particular goal or objective Management is the function that coordinates the efforts of people to accomplish goals and objectives by using available resources efficiently and effectively which includes planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing and controlling an organization to accomplish the goal or target. Traditional theories of leadership are theoretical beliefs or customs handed down from generation to generation concerning leadership ability. Contemporary theories of leadership refer to theories that are on use for leadership in present times. Traditional theories of leadership 1. Great Man† Theories: Great Man theories assume that the capacity for leadership is inherent – that great leaders are born not made. These theories often portray great leaders as heroic, mythic, and destined to rise to leadership when needed. The term â€Å"Great Man† was used because, at the time, leadership was thought of primarily as a male quality, especially in terms of military leadership. Challenge: What about women who provide good leadership even better than men, although were not considered to be great men? Great man theories fail to provide the answer for that question 2.
